Courses in India |
A Bachelor of Pharmacy (abbreviated BPharm) is an undergraduate academic degree in the field of pharmacy. The degree is the basic prerequisite for registration to practice as a pharmacist in many countries. In some countries, it has been superseded by the Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) and Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degrees. Pharmaceutical science deals with the development and preparation of drugs. A pharmacist works in research laboratories to develop new drugs from natural and synthetic sources, reduce the side effects of the drugs sold in the market and ensures the quality of existing formulations.
For a student to be eligible for registration as a pharmacist in India, the college from which he/she graduated must be approved by the PCI. B-Pharm is often superseded by M-Pharm and PhD level courses although the minimum qualification required for registration as a pharmacist is D.Pharm. Prominent colleges imparting B.Pharm in India approved by PCI as on August 15, 2012 are Hindu College Of Pharmacy, Gohana Road, Sonipat, Haryana
