Animation is the process of designing, drawing, making layouts and preparation of photographic sequences which are integrated in the multimedia and gaming products. Animation involves the exploitation and management of still images to generate the illusion of movement. A person who creates animations is called animator. He / she use various computer technologies to capture the still images and then to animate these in desired sequence.

Multimedia is the term used to represent combination of visual and audio materials gathered from various resources and then added into one single combination. A multimedia product can be sets of texts, 
graphic arts, sounds, animations and videos. Precisely, term multimedia is used to refer visual and audio materials into a single common presentation which can be played in a computer including CD ROM or digital video, internet or web technology, streaming audio or video and data projection system etc.

Modern entertainment industry i.e. film 
and television has gained new heights because of advances in animation, graphics and multimedia. Television advertisements, cartoons serials, and presentation and model designs all uses animation and multimedia techniques.

Career in Animation & Multimedia is for creative minds. Anyone can become animator or multimedia programmer if his / her visualization is good, willing to work hard and can create a sense in products which audiences not only watch or listen but remember once they come across it. Expert professionals in animation and multimedia are in high demand in film industry, advertisement and gaming worldwide. Specially gaming industry is in its booms as indoor video games are taken over outdoor games and hence the demand for quality animators rose worldwide.

Following are described various capacities under which animator and multimedia programmer works-

Animator- The work of animator is related with designing, drawing, making layouts and preparation of graphically rich and eye catching multimedia clips. Animator uses 2D and 3D clippings for preparing cartoons, games, instructional programs, CD – ROM or Web and Videos. To be an animator does not necessarily need to be a great artist. Though, an animator must be good in 3D modeling and following designers sketch. He / she must be able to visualize how an object will appear in 3D and must have the talent to make an animated object look real. 

Author Based Programming- The task of author based programmer includes writing scripts and hence to group various images, text, animation, graphics, presentations and sound to produce a multimedia product. 

Computer Based Graphic Design: A person who works in this capacity is often called Graphic Designer. The work of a graphic designer involves using computer technology and different software like Photoshop etc to manage production, interface and grouping of different graphics and other mediums into the multi package design. The basic role of a graphic designer is design of art and copy layouts for multimedia products. 

Digital Video Sound Editing- A person who works in this capacity is called Video Editor. He / she performcomputer based editing to generate video sound for multimedia products. To work as a video editor one should be sound in editing video and audio, voice-overs and mixing videos. 

Multimedia Programming or Multimedia Designing: Depending upon the role, a person who works in this capacity is called programmer or designer. The multimedia programming and multimedia designing involves writing codes so as to include audio-visual elements and solving problems in conversation between different platforms.  To work in this capacity the person should have specialization in programming and video systems. Multimedia programmers use authoring systems and various programming language to create Multimedia programs and multimedia designs. 

Interface Designing: The work of interface designer includes devising navigation paths and content maps. He / she require excellent programming skills and familiarity in integration of multimedia products.

Instructional Designing: A person who works in this capacity is called Instructional Designer or ID. He / she can be a multimedia designer/programmer or/or interface designer to change educational instruction media into a single multimedia product. Nowadays, with the internet technology, education is going online. Private educators, schools, colleges and awareness groups use online media to deliver educational content. The trend is catching up from west to east fast, and hence the need for quality instructional designers is growing manifold worldwide. 

Production Artist: Sometimes simply called artists. He / She must have knowledge of animation and multimedia technologies with relevant experience in the field. A production artist work with designers and project managers to scan, format, batch and produce various products.

Website Designing and Website Development: A person who works in this capacity called Website Designer / Website Developer. He / she is responsible for overall look and feel of a website. Knowledge ofanimation, graphics and multimedia tools and techniques along with image editing tools is necessary to be a successful web designer. 

Technical Writing: A person who works in the capacity is called Technical Writer. Generally speaking, the work of a technical writer is to present sophisticated content in front of audience in such a form so that everyone and anyone may be able to understand and learn from it. The work of a technical writer associates with development of characters, view points, scripts for voice-overs, and instructional texts etc. The visualization skills of a technical writer must be excellent.
